El Nido GRANDPAcking Costs

Cost Of Existence (COE):

Accommodation: My accommodation was 1 night in a BELOW ‘GRANDPAcking Standard’ Double Fan Room (breakfast excluded) followed by 9 nights in a BELOW ‘GRANDPAcking Standard’ Double Fan Room on the beach (breakfast included).

Transport: I hired a scooter for 1 day (PHP600) to go out to Nacpan Beach; petrol for the day cost PHP50.

Communications & Fees: In Manila Airport, I purchased a 1 month Globe SIMcard with ‘unlimited’ data and no texts nor calls; this was still ‘active’ for my time in El Nido.

Food: I averaged PHP277 / day… I varied my ‘main’ meal of the day between Lunch and Dinner. I bought big bottles of water for drinking and ablutions. I did not always have fruit drinks.

My ‘Cost of Existing / Day’ was PHP1243 / NZ$42 / US$27 / €24 / £19. But only because I was living in BELOW GRANDPAcking Standard accommodation.

This put a ‘budget’ roof over my head, gave me necessary transport & other basic necessities, fed me 3 times each day, and paid for my refreshments.

My available ‘LIVING Funds’ each day were PHP1229 / NZ$38 / US$24 / €22 / £17.

Visa: The Philippines Visa isn’t cheap, so I have apportioned the Visa costs against my nights in El Nido. It comes out at just over US$1 / day.

Bars: A small San Miguel in starts at PHP40 but can be as high as PHP60 on the beach. I averaged PHP188 / night on drinks. But, some nights I would buy some rum and coke and drink with Angel & Erotica on the deck back at our hotel.

Personal: I didn’t need to purchase any personal items.

Trips: I did a 2 Day / 1 night Island Hopping Trip for which I paid nothing; acting as ‘banker’ for the group cost me PHP100.

Shopping: I bought a long-sleeve top to keep sandflies and mozzies off in the evening. I also bought a couple of mobile sized wet bags to keep things dry on the Island Hopping Trip.

My actual GRANDPAcking costs came in at PHP1786 / NZ$60 / US$38 / €35 / £27 per day. This was 75% of my total budget… I still had 25% of my budget left.

I had enough LIVING funds to have fun as and when I wanted to. But, I could only do so because I was not living to a GRANDPAcking Standard.

Cost Of Existence (COE):

Accommodation: You will struggle to book a GRANDPAcking Standard room online for under PHP1500 / night. To get that price, you will need to get online weeks in advance and search daily for ‘big discount’ deals before you arrive. Once there, you should be able to find suitable accommodation at PHP1500 / night (including breakfast) – if you try hard, this MAY be on the beach. As El Nido seems to be constantly full, it will be hard to get better discounts.

Transport: For your ‘weekly break’, I have included a budget to go on a day trip to Nacpan Beach at a cost of PHP650 return. You can eaither rent a scooter for this or go by Tribike for the same price.

Communications: I have included a prepaid 1 Month Globe ‘unlimited’ data package with no texts and no talk time.

Food: You must get breakfast included in your hotel rate; if not, you are looking at PHP500 each morning for an Omelette, Toast, and coffee each – your alternative is to have rice and fried eggs in a ‘buffet’ cafe without coffee for PHP70 each. I have budgeted for you to have Lunch in a Filipino ‘buffet’ with a fruit drink (PHP50). For Dinner I have budgeted for something simple (PHP125) in a budget cafe / restaurant with a fruit juice (PHP90).

The ‘Cost Of Existence’ of 2 GRANDPAckers is about PHP2332 / NZ$79 / US$50 / €46 / £35 per day.

You will have no money left for LIVING on a GRANDPAcking Budget.

El Nido is not a GRANDPAcking destination.
