Ayvalik - Town - Waterfront Boats
JUNE 2019: OVERVIEW: PLEASE NOTE: The currency in Turkey is the New Turkish Lira (I will refer to them as T$s). At the time of writing, US$1 = T$5.87). I was making my way slowly up the Mediterranean (Turquoise) Coast from Antalya to Istanbul. My last stop was Kusadasi: It was, now, time to move north to Ayvalik (via Izmir) … GETTING THERE: Kusadasi to Izmir: I walked out of my Kusadasi waterfront hotel to the nearest Bus Stop. I was there at 11:15am. I caught the No 5 bus to the Otogar (T$2.50). A taxi costs EURO3. I was […]

Ayvalik – Turkey – Information

FEBRUARY 2016: Click here to read our Philippines Retirement Reviews. OVERVIEW: I have already provided Information about Coron and the GRANDPAcking Costs. The Cost Of Existence (COE) in Coron Town comes out at 76% of a GRANDPAcking couple’s budget (US$41 out of a daily budget of US$52). This doesn’t leave much for LIVING. In this post, I suggest how GRANDPAckers can LIVE 10 nights in Coron on a GRANDPAcking budget of US$52 / day. To do so, GRANDPAckers need to compromise on the quality of their accommodation (but not too much)… GETTING THERE: I assume that you are in El Nido (the most likely place). If […]

Port Barton – Philippines – GRANDPAcking Costs

JANUARY 2015:   Click here to read our Philippines Retirement Reviews. OVERVIEW: Port Barton is another one of those ‘must see’ places in Palawan. Many blogs say that it is ‘off the beaten track’; it is not. It is now on the beaten track, full of backpackers, and getting busier and busier every year. I met a seasoned expat from Australia who was also here last year. He said that accommodation and food prices have ‘doubled’ since last year (and that he won’t be coming again next year because of it). The man was, obviously, disappointed so you take such things with […]
